Job Description
The Women’s Political Participation (WPP) Team seeks a Senior Program Assistant/Program Officer (depending on experience) to support the development of gender monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools and initiatives as they relate to democratic governance, in order to strengthen NDI’s women and gender programming.
This person will be the primary lead on gender M&E within the WPP team, liaising closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team, contributing to new thinking and practice on gender M&E within NDI, and assisting regional teams to design and implement M&E programs as needed. This person will also act as focal point within the team for a designated number of regions or countries. The position is based in Washington, DC.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the WPP in-house resource person on gender M&E as it relates to NDI’s work strengthening democratic governance around the globe;
- Foster and maintain strong collaboration on gender M&E with MEL team;
- Work with NDI regional teams to design robust gender M&E mechanisms within their programming;
- Train and offer advice and guidance for NDI staff on gender M&E;
- Coordinate and deliver support on integrating gender into monitoring and evaluation processes for NDI and its partners;
- Contribute to new thinking and practices on gender M&E in democratic processes and governance institutions;
- Work as a team player within the women’s political participation team, contributing to administrative and logistical support for day to day operations;
- Maintain collaborative relationships with M&E peers in international democratic development organizations, civic organizations and among NDI's network of volunteer trainers and experts;
- Undertake initiatives to stay current with the latest information on gender M&E and women’s political participation more broadly;
- Draft board memos, proposals, work plans, concept papers, website text, quarterly and other reports;
- Contribute to the team’s social media and external communications efforts;
- Take part in strategic and work plan discussions and facilitate sharing of program strategies across regional teams.
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required preferably in public policy or gender studies; graduate degree preferred; coursework or qualifications in political science, international relations, or international development an added advantage;
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or competency in gender and monitoring and evaluation as well as one of the following: international development, democracy and governance, political party development, community organizing, political campaigns, organizational development, law/legislative affairs, or equivalent experience at NDI;
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required for the Senior Program Assistant and four (4) years for the Program Officer;
- Experience living/working/traveling outside the US preferred;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Foreign language skills a plus.
Candidates must have prior authorization to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship in order to be eligible for thisp position.
