The Center for Conflict, Negotiation and Recovery at CEU's School of Public Policy is seeking two fellows for 2015. The fellows will be working on "The Aleppo Project," a multi-disciplinary effort to find answers to the question: "How can refugees ensure they have a voice in the reconstruction of their cities and not suffer the double displacement that comes from first violence and then rebuilding?"
CCNR is looking for academics or policymakers who speak both Arabic and English and who work on issues relating to cities, refugees or reconstruction after conflict. The Aleppo Project involves a number of strands from developing maps of the city with refugees to researching lessons from the reconstruction of such cities as Beirut, Kabul and Sarajevo. Fellows can come from any discipline but should have a focus on policy and practical responses to urban issues. The project focuses on Aleppo, the world's longest continually inhabited city, and aims to find ways to ensure that displaced get a voice when the city is eventually rebuilt. The project will also look at ways cities adapt during war.
Duration of the fellowship: 9 months, with flexible starting times.
Language requirements: English and Arabic.
Location: Fellows will be based in Budapest at the Central European University, but will be expected to travel for research.
Fellows will receive 40,000 USD and some expenses for research and travel.
Research will involve collaborating with others, including student teams.
How to apply:
Please send a CV, a project proposal relating to Aleppo and a writing sample in English to ccnr@ceu.hu . Please write Aleppo Fellowships in the subject line.
