The internship is located in the Political Affairs and Partnerships Section, Office of the Director-General, UNOG. The intern will be under the overall supervision of the Chief of Section and under the daily guidance of the Professional Officer in the Section. The duration of the internship is for three months and could be extended for another three months. The internship is not paid and full-time interns work for five days per week.
The estimated starting date is from 2 January 2015, for an initial period of three months and could be extended up to a maximum of 6 months in total.
Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
- Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship either prior to graduation or within a one-year period of graduation from an academic programme.
Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.
The University degree must be in the area of International Relations, Development studies, International Science, Politics, Communications and other related areas.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme;
• Should be computer literate in standard software applications;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Fluency (Ability to speak, read and draft) in English or French. Knowledge of the other language would be an advantage.
