Training Coordinator Manual Drilling

Woord en Daad
A consortium of Dutch (Woord en Daad, Tear, Huisman Foundation, IDEA) and Ethiopian organizations (EKHC-IWSP, Mekelle University) is initiating an innovative pilot project in Manual Drilling. Woord en Daad is the lead of the consortium, while EKHC is the main implementing partner. In selected sites in Tigray, entrepreneurs are trained into certified manual drilling professionals, and further supported to set up a Manual Drilling business. The project also aims to strengthen the supply chain of hardware and welding workshops to guarantee quality installation and maintenance of water lifting technologies. The project also pilots various social marketing approaches and instruments for accessing finance. The project involves collaboration with multiple stakeholders including entrepreneurs, community groups, government departments, and MFIs. This pilot project is a venture to support the Government promoted strategy of self-supply for productive and communal use.
Job Title: Training Coordinator
Purpose: Coordinate, co-facilitate and follow-up technical trainings on manual drilling and tool- and pump manufacture, and on-the-job capacity building of trainees in the project
Job Functions:
· Prepare and organize the training cycles in the project, and offer full logistical support during the trainings
· Work closely with Professional international trainers, and co-facilitate part of the trainings
· Offer follow-up support as a resource person to the trainees in between training cycles
· Monitor and coach trainees in practicing their MD skills on location
· Provide technical support and coaching to initiated welding workshops and drilling trainees
· Support the Project Coordinator in representing the project to external stakeholders and provide technical details
Responsible for:
  • Transparent handling of project training related finances
  • Good stewardship of project related assets (drilling equipment)
  • Preparation, facilitation and logistics of trainings
  • Smooth, continuity of follow up training
Qualifications and experience:
  1. Diploma in technical training
  2. Proven experience in providing technical and theoretical coaching including on-the-job trainings and assistance when issues are identified
  3. Preferably experience with (manual) drilling and some understanding of geo-hydrology
  4. Some experience in production of technical products, familiar with metal workshop skills
  5. Ability to coach and train metal workshop trainees as well as manual drillersAble to indicate and maintain standards required for the different components of work in Manual drilling and production of manual drilling tools
  6. Experience in keeping good records of training and field work that is executed
  7. Ability to work against agreed deadlines for reporting
  8. Fluent in English and Amharic (Tigrinya), speaking and writing
  9. In possession of driving license
  10. In sympathy with Christian values
  11. A heart and drive for training and building capacities of less educated people
  12. Enthusiastic, able to motivate people
  13. Team player and able to work and communicate with a team of international experts
  14. Prepared to do hard work, and go an extra mile to support trainees
  15. Able to respond quickly and creatively to technical problems in the fieldT
  16. he position is based in Tigray. The Training Coordinator will work under a Project Coordinator as part of a small professional team. We offer a competitive salary.
