BASIC FUNCTION
Support outreach and impact goals for Foreign Policy (FP) centers and initiatives through the development and execution of digital and social media strategies, and coordination of the publication process.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in digital media and marketing, communications, or related field (media, technology, etc.) required. Minimum three years of relevant experience in digital media and marketing, and/or social media strategy. Must have experience developing, writing, or editing content for online platforms. Must have experience directly managing social media accounts, particularly Twitter. Must have proven record of maintaining a web presence by building, maintaining and engaging active web-based/social media audiences to meet outreach and impact goals; and a proven record of accomplishment in use of digital marketing and social media platforms to promote individual content and overall organization. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Must have familiarity and ease with latest digital platforms and analytics tools; proficiency in HTML, web and social media analytics tools, Photoshop, and contact management platforms; solid understanding of digital and social media marketing, online news platforms, and contact database management. Complete proficiency in spoken and written English required; additional language skills helpful. Background in and understanding of international relations or foreign policy helpful. Excellent work ethic required; plus ability to work independently and as part of a team; and initiative, reliability, and strong detail orientation.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
30% Social Media Management
Serves as the primary coordinator of the Brookings FP Twitter account (@BrookingsFP):
- Regularly drafts and sends tweets promoting Brookings FP content, and works with scholars and staff for creative content ideas;
- Monitors mentions of Brookings FP, develops and implements strategies to join Twitter conversations where appropriate;
- Promotes and live tweets Brookings FP events;
- Reports on account growth and engagement; and provides recommendations on how to optimize the account accordingly.
- Collaborates with staff in COMM to promote Brookings FP content over main Institution social channels such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- Collaborates with COMM to ensure that all FP scholars are using social media as much as possible to maximize the impact of their work.

- Responsible for outreach to online news organizations, reporters, and relevant bloggers; assists in the promotion of publications and events to web-based news outlets and journalists.
Works with research assistants, scholars, and project managers to present FP program content in a timely and effective manner; collaborates with other multimedia and social media coordinators across the organization, including in COMM, Brookings Press, and other research programs; maintains, develops, and uses contact database system; trains new FP staff on the use and potential of the program’s database and e-mail marketing system.

20% E-mail Marketing
- Serve as the primary coordinator of the FP e-mail marking program. Work with the FP and COMM teams to develop e-mail and newsletter strategies to grow readership.

- Creatively strategizes ways to generate multimedia content and exploit new media platforms to advance the FP program’s outreach and impact goals; responsible for increasing the program’s digital audience engagement on an ongoing basis.
- Works with FP Communications Director and the central Brookings Office of Communications (COMM) to develop digital marketing and social media strategies and content on an ongoing basis.
- Develops strategies for promoting FP’s research, reports, and events throughout the year; works with FP Communications Director and center staff to develop multimedia content and strategies to promote special program initiatives (book launches, U.S.-based and international conferences, major research releases, etc.). Further, works in coordination with COMM staff to execute multimedia, digital marketing, and email campaign strategies.
