Part-Time Translator (English/Arabic)

Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Cairo, Egypt is issuing a request for CVs/expression of interest in order to obtain applications to fill the position of “Translator” on part-time basis in its office in Cairo, Egypt.
Under the overall supervision of the Country Programme Coordinator, and in coordination with IOM programme managers, the incumbent will translate between English and Arabic and be generally responsible for the production of Arabic output for the IOM Egypt Country Office (CO). The incumbent will help to address the need for high quality Arabic content to be readily available across all areas of IOM's work.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
  • Translate regular official correspondence to Governmental counterparts;
  • Translate public information material such as press releases or media features between English and Arabic as required.
  • Translate reports and research produced between English and Arabic, as required.
  • Translate key documents between English and Arabic, as required.
  • Assist with the production of project materials in Arabic, as required.
  • Assist in liaising with counterparts in Arabic and provide ad hoc oral translation, as needed
  • Translate any other content necessary from English to Arabic and vice versa, upon request.
Desirable Qualifications:
a) completed advanced university degree from an accredited academic institution preferably in Political/ Social Sciences, business Administration, International Relations, Development Studies or related field; b) solid knowledge of migration and protection; c) experience in supporting project implementation/management, liaison with donors and implementing partners; d) very good drafting skills in English, experience in writing various outputs such as reports and articles; e) previous experiences with IOM and with UN specialized agencies an advantage.

Language(s): Thorough knowledge of English and Arabic
