Budgetary Responsibility: Responsible for raising grants and contracts secured against agreed income and budgetary targets.
Base Location:Nairobi, Kenya
Type of Contract:Full-time fixed term contract
Language & Location Requirements: English proficiency and Eligible to work in Kenya
Salary: Negotiable (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Travel: There will be travel for Somalia support.
Duration of Initial Contract: One Year (with possibility of extension)

Background and Job Summary

Established in 1993, Muslim Hands is an international NGO working in over fifty countries globally supporting programmes to provide durable solutions to the needs of people who are affected by natural disasters, conflict and poverty. Muslim Hands is committed to the highest standards of efficiency, transparency and accountability to maximise and multiply the impact of its emergency, humanitarian and development efforts around the world.
Muslim Hands is looking for a motivated and results-oriented professional to support the development and implementation of Muslim Hands fundraising strategy and plans for Kenya and Somalia country programmes. The individual will be able to demonstrate her or his ability and experience in securing grants and contracts from institutional donors. Muslim Hands established the position of Programme Funding Coordinator to strengthen and drive its donor relations and resource mobilisation strategy as well as communications and grant management capabilities by cultivating solid and innovative relationships with a wide range of partners in Kenya and Somalia. A Masters Degree in Social Sciences is required with minimum of 5 years programme funding experience with demonstrated evidence of securing funding from major institutional donors, and other funding agencies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Under the line management of the Regional Country Desk for East Africa at Muslim Hands Headquarters in Nottingham, United Kingdom, in-country supervision by Kenya Country Manager and in close collaboration with Somalia Country Manager, the Programme Funding Coordinator will guide and support Muslim Hands to ensure that:
· Strategic and coherent engagement with institutional donors is achieved.
· Partnerships and collaboration with strategic CSO partners, UN agencies, governmental agencies, stakeholders and constituency are fostered.
· Programme funding opportunities and targets are realized.
Specific Areas of Responsibility
1.Funding Strategies and Plans
· Proactively seek funding opportunities from institutional donors in Kenya and Somalia.
· Carry out donor mapping and build strong pipeline of opportunities for major institutional donors such as DFID, EC and ECHO as well as Country-based Pooled Funds.
· Support Kenya and Somalia country offices and Nottingham staff to develop programme funding strategies and plans so as to proactively position Muslim Hands for future bids.
· Raise an agreed grant target from institutional donors.
2.Donor Identification and Partnership Development
· Research and gather information on prospective and existing funding opportunities, and advise on best approach.
· Analyse and share information on donor funding trends to aid long-term strategy development.
· Develop strong relationships with in-country donors in Kenya and Somalia, in collaboration with the Fundraising Coordinator in Muslim Hands Somalia programme.
· Build strong partnerships with other CSOs, agencies and networks for future consortia formations.
3.Funding Applications and Setting Minimum Standards
· Ensure coordinated management of proposal development processes and submission of high quality funding applications in a timely manner.
· Warrant maximum compliance with donor rules and regulations as well as Muslim Hands priorities, requirements and standards.
· Ensure that high quality narrative and financial reports are submitted on time to donors.
· Capacity building of staff and partners to improve quality of project design and quality of proposals.
· Contribute to development of standards and tools as well as the implementation of best practices that will enhance bidding processes and enable effective shared-learning across Muslim Hands International.
· Any other reasonable duties as may be required by Senior Management of Muslim Hands.
