SOS Chilren’s Villages Sierra Leone is a non-governmental social development organisation that has been active in the field of children's rights and committed to children's need and concerns since 1974. Focusing its work on children without parental care and children at risk of losing parental care. The organisation has a wide range of community programmes (in Goderich, Bo/Mattru on the rails and Makeni) which include children's villages, a youth facility, a social centre and family strengthening programmes, kindergartens and schools.
Main Role and Responsibilities
- To lead and oversee the Accounting/Finance Team of the National Association
- Reports directly to the National Director and interfaces directly with other National Management Team (NMT) members.
- Provide leadership in the management and control of data entry into the organization accounting systems
- Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and SOS Children’s Villages International (CVI) Policy Support Documents (PSD)
- Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial/accounting data entries, documents, and reports
- Assures compliance with national and organization policies, regulations and laws.
Regularly researching and analyzing accounting/finance matters - Provide adequate and timely responses to the IOR/IO in matters of finance, accounting and project/program management
- Provide leadership in treasury and risk management in liquid and non-liquid resources of the NA
- Evaluates current accounting practices and policies and drives continuous improvement
- Prepares supporting schedules to support the national strategic planning process
- Management/oversee the annual budgeting process and doing regular budgetary controls
- Prepares financial and management reports to support in the monitor, control and review of actual and planned financial/management performance. Ensures integrity of all financial/management information
- Prepare financial statements in accordance to current International Financial Reporting Standards(IFRS)
- Supports and works with both internal and external auditors during financial and operational audits
- Contribute to the development, implementation and upgrades of financial systems and controls
Skills & Abilities:
- Experience in working with advance accounting/management applications Systems
- Multi-location and international background
- Ability to work with supervision and to delegate work responsibly with strong interpersonal skills for a good team leader
- Problem solving and strategizing capabilities
- Progressive experience leading teams and managing projects
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate with peers, subordinates and senior management
- In-depth/good knowledge of office applications such as Excel, Word and Outlook
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Post Graduate Degree in finance / accounting
- Professional qualification in finance/accounting/administration would be a preference(ACCA, ICSA, ACA,CIPFA etc)
- 5-10 years’ experience in related field
