Position Summary:
Creative Associates seeks a Senior Conflict Advisor for an anticipated USAID-funded project in Eastern DRC. The Senior Conflict Advisor will provide strategic and intellectual direction to programming, ensuring that activities are conflict-sensitive, providing expertise on conflict analysis and mitigation, assisting with the design and implementation of activities, and supporting the engagement of women and marginalized populations.
Reporting & Supervision:
The Senior Conflict Advisor will report to the Chief of Party.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance and direction for program strategy and activities in the areas of conflict mitigation/resolution, direct mediation and dialogue, and conflict assessments;
- Develop or adapt conflict mitigation assessment frameworks for eastern DRC;
- Lead a team or independently conduct assessments;
- Support the integration of conflict assessment findings into other program activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- MA or PhD in political science, conflict resolution, public administration, business administration, public policy, law, or a related field;
- Minimum eight (8) years of related international development experience in community development, economic development, mediation/arbitration, conflict resolution, democracy and governance, international law, human rights activities, and/or political analysis, including five years of experience working on conflict programs;
- Expertise in conflict assessment and mapping, managing complex partnerships and cross-cutting projects, local and national institutional building, direct mediation and dialogue, and integrated community-specific reconstruction;
- Extensive knowledge of international policy debates on conflict, security and development is essential;
- Strong written communication, oral communication and interpersonal skills; and
- Fluency in English and a minimum of level 3 in French.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- French fluency preferred;
- Experience working in Central Africa and/or the DRC; and
- Experience engaging women and marginalized groups to ensure their inclusion.
