Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the Department of Political Affairs. The Special Assistant will work under the supervision of the Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on Cyprus (SASG) and in close coordination with the Director of the Europe Division.
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, social science, international relations, international economics, law, conflict resolution, public administration, management or a related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Training in alternate conflict resolution is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, political analysis, conflict resolution, or a related area, at national and/or international levels is required. Experience dealing with issues relating to the Cyprus negotiations and the Eastern Mediteranean region is desired. Experience in support to a senior UN official is desired. Experience with mediation processes is desirable. Experience providing political support and guidance to UN good offices missions is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language is desirable.
