Misean Cara Development Mentor

Misean Cara and MDF West Africa are looking for a qualified and motivated:
Misean Cara Development Mentor
This is a position for 40 hours per week with at least 15 working days per month spent away from duty station (Accra)
Your Responsibilities
· To build the capacity of personnel delivering development projects funded by Misean Cara in West Africa. In particular to assist project personnel to understand and implement the results-based management approach. The mentor will be called on to assist in all phases of the project cycle, including needs assessment, problem identification, project formulation, proposal writing, establishment of a baseline and a monitoring system, implementation and review. Mostly the mentor will work with small project teams, but may also be asked to run short courses on particular topics for one or more members. Follow up remote mentoring by email and Skype is likely also to occur.
· To coordinate a regional network of members and their partners in West Africa in order to facilitate communication between members and with Misean Cara. This will include organizing an annual workshop.
· To assist Misean Cara monitor and evaluate projects in countries where the mentor is not providing mentorship support. This will entail travel beyond the West Africa Region
· To assist Misean Cara collect material about successful projects in order to communicate the results achieved to the public through the media.
· To assist project management teams in Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Niger, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Sierra Leone. This will include 15 working days per month spent on project sites outside Accra. The successful candidate will join Misean Cara’s Africa team of Development Mentors led from Misean Cara in Ireland.
Your competencies:
· Performs when working independently as well as in a team;
· A high degree of self-sufficiency and initiative, and the ability to innovate; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate and work with a wide range of people in a participatory, respectful and collaborative manner;
Your qualifications:
· A degree-level qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline;
· At least three years’ experience in the development sector, preferably in West Africa;
· Excellent writing skills across a range of styles;
· Excellent English language skills.
Assets:
· An affinity with, and respect for, the approach to development work taken by missionary organizations
· Experience in management of development projects according to the results-based approach;
· A willingness to travel to and work in particularly marginalized and under-developed areas;
· Available for a period of at least 2 years.
Additional skills and attributes that would be desirable are:
• A masters-level qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline;
• Experience in capacity development, particularly in the area of results-based management;
• Experience working in a capacity development role with grassroots organizations;
• Demonstrable knowledge of the role of the church or other faith based organisations in international development;
• The right to live and work in Ghana;
• Fluency in French.
