Alumni Engagement Manager

About the role
The Manager – Alumni Engagement will be responsible for overseeing and directing the implementation of Australia Awards’ overall alumni engagement strategy broadly described below and will manage alumni communications and relationship building ensuring alignment with DFAT’s global Australia Awards Alumni Network (AAAN) Strategy. The role is important in achieving Australia’s development and diplomacy objectives in Africa.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the team managing the Women’s Network members and support management of the Alumni Ambassadors group
Coordinate Alumni events and meetings
Manage the two Senior Alumni Engagement Officers to deliver communication pieces for publicity and website content
Manage a Small Grants Scheme to fund appropriate Alumni projects
About You
Selection Criteria
  • Master’s degree (preferred), minimum Bachelors (Honours) in communications, public relations or relevant field. Undergraduate degree supplemented by a minimum of five years of relevant experience in similar position may be acceptable;
  • Experience managing and preparing communications products such as newsletters, stories and website content;
  • Experience managing high profile events;
  • Experience establishing and managing effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver outcomes;
  • Experience managing small teams.
  • Specific experience in an Alumni relations position is desirable;
  • Experience managing grants;
  • Experience of studying in Australia;
  • Understanding and appreciation of, or demonstrated willingness to learn about, Australia Awards, the Australian Governments’ Aid Program and international development more broadly;
  • Experience of and expertise in event managementPersonal Qualities:
    The successful candidate must be able to work independently, operate under pressure to tight deadlines, and be able to multi-task. The appointee will be outgoing and comfortable meeting people and representing the organisation externally, and will be enthusiastic, reliable, flexible and well-organised.

Australia Awards (Africa) is a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade supported initiative designed to: (i) equip Africans with the skills and knowledge necessary to influence the economic and social development outcomes of their own countries; and (ii) build the long-term capacity of African governments to progress towards their Millennium Development Goals.
Australia Awards provides a mix of Scholarships and Fellowships to Africans in the public, civil society and private sectors in targeted disciplines that support the home countries’ developmental priorities.
