Org. Setting and Reporting
These positions are located in United Nations Field Peace Operations and Special Political missions. The SSR Officer typically reports to the head of a SSR unit or to a senior official
responsible for SSR operations though this may vary depending on the mission structure.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in either political science, social sciences, management, international economics, international relations, law, development or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the area of security sector reform (SSR) or related area is required. Experience in SSR at the sector-wide level is desirable. Experience in the coordination, development and implementation of SSR programs and projects in post-conflict contexts is desirable. Experience providing technical support in the area of SSR to peace operations is desirable. Previous experience in a United Nations peacekeeping or special political mission is highly desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second United Nations official language is desirable.
