Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist - Sector Strengthening West and Central Africa Region, P-4, Dakar Senegal

UNICEF, the world’s leading organization working for the rights of children, seeks a WASH specialist with sector strengthening expertise. The specialist will contribute to three broad objectives as follows:

i. Analysis and strategy: Develop a better understanding of the WASH enabling environment in WCAR and develop sector strengthening strategies to support it.
ii. Technical Assistance and capacity development: Improve WCARO’s capacity to support UNICEF country offices on various WASH sector strengthening and enabling environment issues while developing in-country capacities.
iii. Partnerships: Improve synergy and coordination with ongoing strategic WASH partnerships for the region.

Qualifications:

• Advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Water/Civil /Environmental Engineering, Public Health /Management Administration, Public Policy.
• At least 8 years of recent professional experience in the field of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion or other related field acquired within an NGO, a research establishment or agency of the United Nations at the national and / or international level; experience working in or with organizations such as international development banks or donor agencies etc.

• Experience of WASH institutional issues particularly in sub Saharan Africa.
• A good practical knowledge of the drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion sector in the developing countries, particularly in sub Saharan Africa.

• Advanced Skills in software programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Other: Internet/web-platforms
• Fluency in English and French. Knowledge of another UN language an asset.
