Internship Opportunity and Background
The Decentralized Cooperation Programme (DCP) of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) offers an internship/traineeship programme for young professionals or fresh postgraduate students. The working experience is designed to allow interns/trainees to strengthen their knowledge and gain practical experience in the training and learning field, with a specialization in topics related to sustainable development.
DCP provides training to local actors to enhance their capacity to achieve sustainable development at the local level. At the core of the training activities there are workshops and seminars implemented mostly through a global network of training centres for local actors – the CIFAL Network – as well as e-learning courses.
The Internship/Traineeship
DCP is now accepting applications from qualified applicants interested in working forsix months on a full-time unpaid basis at UNITAR headquarters in Geneva.
The intern/trainee will be supporting the expansion and improvement of DCP’s portfolio of e-Learning courses. Some of the main responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the instructional design of e-learning courses;
- Supporting the development of interactive e-learning content using authoring and design tools (particularly Articulate Storyline);
- Supporting the coordination and delivery of DCP e-Learning courses (on topics such as urban sanitation, urban mobility and social responsibility);
- Assist in the quality certification of e-learning courses
- Create database of individuals and organizations that can be interested in DCP’s e-learning portfolio
- Support the promotion of e-learning courses
Skills Required
The intern/trainee should possess organizational, analytical, visual thinking and technical skills to assist with the design and development of online courses; web design skills; readiness to learn new software skills; knowledge of softwares such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator; and preferably knowledge of authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline. Other qualities, like willingness to learn, dedication, independence at work and initiative are highly desirable. Knowledge of local development topics is considered an asset.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a solid background in one or more of the following fields:
- Education
- Instructional Design
- Instructional Technology
- Communication
- Design
Language
Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of another UN language will be considered an asset.
Internship/traineeship term:four to six months (preferable six months).
The internship/traineeship programme is normally on a full-time basis, but part-time arrangements can be agreed upon depending on both the requirements of the programme and the availability of the intern.
