Purpose of the Position:
Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Health & Nutrition, the incumbent is accountable for formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition project(s) of the UNICEF Zambia Country Programme to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of project management, delivery and accomplishment of project goals and objectives. S/he will be accountable for effective technical leadership, management guidance and programme support to facilitate the application and adaptation of UNICEF policies and strategies to achieve programme goals and expansion of UNICEF-assisted Nutrition interventions.

As head of the Nutrition Unit, leads, manages, develops and enables a team of professionals to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the Nutrition programme, coordinating integration of strategies towards efficiency and sustainability and with a view to integrating gender equality across all aspects of the country programme. Coordinates the Unit's inputs of pursuing equitable access particularly for vulnerable populations. The incumbent will lead the team in mobilization of resources for nutrition programmes and liaise with donors and funding institutions for effective and equitable use of resources particularly for vulnerable populations. Contribute to create synergistic partnerships with other UN agencies and development partners to ensure harmonization of implementation.
Key Expected Results:
-Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and collaboration to the Situation Analysis and its periodic update made for effective project planning, development and management.
-Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key Nutrition sectoral programme documents and reports, sharing good practice, lessons learned, and ensuring knowledge/information exchange.
-Quality of rights-based Nutrition projects /programmes effectively promoted, and coherence, synergy and value added to project management process through results-based management.
-Sectorial work plan and activities formulated, implemented and monitored, ensuring alignment with the defined project strategies and approaches which includes, multi-sector coordination for implementation of adapted nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions to improve stunting.
-Project delivery, evaluation and reporting carried out efficiently, rigorously and transparently in compliance with the established guidelines and procedures.
-UNICEF's global goals effectively promoted through advocacy and policy dialogue in the Nutrition sector, ensuring that and equity and other requisite issues are highlighted.
-Proper and timely UNICEF and Government accountability ensured regarding supply and non-supply assistance as well as disbursement of programme funds for the Nutrition sector.
-Effective communication and networking achieved through partnership and collaboration.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate:
-Advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health & Nutrition, Health Sciences, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Public Health, Health Emergency Preparedness, or other relevant discipline(s).
-Eight years of relevant work experience at national and international levels.
-Background/familiarity with Emergency.
-Fluency in English and another UN language. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station would be an asset.
