Senior Economist

by Unknown  |  at  1:48 PM

About you
Are you a confident and thorough individual, who quickly grasps what needs to be done and puts in place a plan to deliver detailed results, accurately and to deadline? Are you the type of person who has a ‘can do’ attitude, and gets on well with people?
We are looking for a logical, task orientated and analytical person who will think through a problem and weigh up the pros and cons, basing decisions on facts, rather than on emotions.
To be successful in this diverse and challenging role you will ideally have previous experience working in an analysis role, with a track record of working effectively in project teams. You will be able to synthesise and communicate technical and complex information effectively at all levels.  You will have the gravitas to bring your expertise to the table, influencing, persuading and providing strategic advice to others as and when appropriate.
You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent and proven problem solving abilities.  You will be adept at prioritising a busy schedule, able to “spin plates” and work effectively under pressure when required.   Astute and politically sensitive, you’ll be comfortable delivering lively and informative presentations to a variety of audiences as well as expertly handling media enquiries.
About the role
As the NFU’s Senior Economist you will be the organisation’s lead adviser on economic affairs.  You will play a leading role in the development of NFU policy by ensuring top quality economic analysis is carried out and results communicated effectively across the organisation and to members.
You will be responsible for assessing the impacts of, and advising on the key economic matters and policy factors of significance to the farming industry. You will also take the lead on a number of relevant policy areas, as agreed with the Chief Adviser (Economics and International Affairs).
This role will be predominantly office-based, although there will be some national and European travel for NFU business and a frequent requirement to travel to meetings in London.  You will have an excellent opportunity to raise your profile within the food and farming industry.
