The UN Entity on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) was created in July 2010 to assist countries and the UN system itself to progress more effectively and efficiently toward the goal of achieving gender equality, women’s empowerment and upholding women’s rights.
UN Women’s vision is a world where societies are free of gender-based discrimination, where women and men have equal opportunities, where the comprehensive development of women and girls is ensured so that they can continue to be active agents of change, where gender equality and women’s empowerment are achieved and where women’s rights are upheld in all efforts to further development, human rights, peace and security.
The Communications section of the regional office for UN Women in West and Central Africa seeks an expert to achieve the following objectives in the area of communications and information technology support, social media, website content development and management
Objectifs généraux de la session :
- Pour aider les femmes des Nations Unies dans la mise en œuvre de sa stratégie de communication et plan de travail dans la région Afrique occidentale et centrale
- Pour soutenir la gestion des comptes régionaux de médias sociaux ( Facebook , Twitter , Youtube , Flickr et d'autres )
- Développer un nouvel examen du contenu en ligne si plusieurs produits multimédias, y compris des communiqués News et mise à jour du site par l'édition et les instruments de communications innovants
- Pour augmenter le lectorat et l'audience des auditoires de partout ONU Femmes En présence et plates-formes en ligne Afrique occidentale et centrale , y compris les médias sociaux et le site WCARO Blog
- Pour la recherche d'outils et instruments de communication innovantes qui peuvent améliorer et améliorer la prestation de produits
- Pour publier et diffuser des messages validés et produits approuvés à travers de multiples canaux de la région Afrique occidentale et centrale et au-delà
Overview of responsibilities of Agency :
- Assist in improving on-line communication presence about UN Women’ work and achievements in West and Central Africa, through existing online communication platforms (including the Africa website, the WCARO Blogsite) and social media (Facebook, twitter and YouTube etc.) and other platforms for showcasing UN Women’s work (photos, videos, podcasts etc).
- Assist in drafting and editing content of news and multimedia section for the UN Women WCARO e-sites and improving quality/style in line with the UN Women’s corporate standards and editorial guidelines , and UN Editorial Standards.
- Assist in monitoring and analyzing website traffic and social media engagement by using analytics tools.
- Support programmes in drafting and editing multiple products including HTML templates.
- Support UN Women’s internal and external information sharing and dissemination of news
- Support the development of the UN Women West and Central community of practice in communications and advocacy via online platforms and outreach via working groups,
- Support the research for evidence, data collection and relevant document in preparing background information notes, and compiling best practices for knowledge sharing.
- Perform other duties as required.
Learning objectives :
· Learn to operate the CMS platform tools for content management of the UN Women Africa Website
· Learn to operate the hosting site for content management of the storytelling blogsite for UN Women in West and Central Africa
· Learn about impact-oriented communications and communications management in a UN environment
· Learn about HTML editing tool and email marketing tool
· Gain experience in working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment
Collaboration
· Work implies collaborating within the communications section, with other sections and units within UN Women
· Work implies collaborating with external partners
Measurable outputs / deliverables :
Key performance indicators for evaluation of results:
· Weekly and monthly reports to be generated
· Social media channels and tools updated daily
· Website and blog site updated daily
· Number Articles posted on the website
· Number of Reports on data ad stats analysis prepared
· Number of viewership/readership of increased
· New audiences targeted
- Quality and timely delivery of social media contents, website articles, other support services following a set schedule
Qualifications :
Professional degree in Information systems Technology or equivalent in communications, Information technology, website management
Minimum 3 years relevant experience/proven work with UN agencies and international organizations in the field of communications and social media web content management with tangible results
Regional and International Experience in working with social media and content management preferred.
Proven Experience in website development and content management system, online communications and knowledge of HTML is preferred.
Proven Experience in image editing software (InDesign, Photoshop, illustrator, fireworks, etc.) is a desirable.
Language proficiency in both English and French is preferred
Language :Excellent command (both written and spoken) of English and French. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
