Expert - Sustainable Economic Development

AFC Consultants International is a German consulting company that specializes in financial sector development, agribusiness, and the food industry. It provides competent consulting services to support agricultural, agribusiness, and financial sector development in cooperation with public and private sector organizations in developing and transition countries.
ABOUT THE JOB: 
AFC Consultants International is seeking an Expert - Sustainable Economic Development. S/he will be responsible for providing assistance to the partner institutions (especially microfinance banks and central bank, and commercial banks) in the development and implementation of concepts in all strategic aspects in close cooperation with the local staff.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Technical tasks:
    • Assist in the development of the financing of SMSE and value chains, especially in the field of 'responsible finance' in close cooperation with GIZ/program staff;
    • Assist microfinance banks in the implementation of premises and regulations of state actors, especially of the central bank;
    • Close cooperation with the GIZ/program staff on the topics of microfinance policy (supervision, monitoring, and quality development of the micro finance banks) and of all aspects of the financial sector reform;
    • Review of experiences and recommendations from the implementation of macro politics on the local level for the use of policy advice towards the CBN and other state facilities together with GIZ/program staff;
    • Increase the professional competence of local project staff and supporting the acquisitions of new competences by day to day training on the job and group training on specific issues.
  • Management tasks:
    • Support the management of the project (team leader) in all professional aspects;
    • Coordinate, plan, and implement project sub-unit activities together with the team leader and management of the program and other units assuring participation and transparency for all involved (GIZ/program staff , partners, stakeholders);
    • Action planning, management, and capacity development of national staff in cooperation with the team leader;
    • Plan missions and management of international and national short term experts (drafting of the ToR and agreement with project (and program) management and studying and approval of reports);
    • Participate in the development of an impact monitoring system in cooperation with the program.
  • Administrative tasks:
    • Participate in the elaboration of short monthly activity reports (maximum two pages);
    • Participate in the elaboration of project (subunit) reports.
Qualifications:
  • Economist (or similar background);
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the financial sector development, experiences in the fields of the private sector promotion, especially value chain development, and public-private dialogue, are appreciated;
  • Management experience in international areas;
  • Several years of work experience in developing or emerging countries, in particular in the Sub-Sahara, Africa;
  • Excellent team player and networking capacities;
  • Knowledge of impact monitoring and proof of successful completion of a capacity works training;
  • Fluent business communication in English, fluent German language skills.
