Internship - National Defense University (CTNSP)

National Defense University is the premier national security institution focused on advanced joint education, leader development, and scholarship. The University provides rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world. The Center for Technology and National Security Policy (CTNSP)  is a Department of Defense-funded think tank that conducts research and analysis on emerging trends in science and technology, strategic forecasting, and program assessment.
Job Description
Our areas of subject matter expertise include: science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); cyber issues; biological and chemical warfare; biomedical; military psychology and resilience; future strategic concepts; additive manufacturing; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; big data, internet of things; learning technology; interagency education; social media technology and research. We also welcome students interested in communications and event management.
Job Responsibilities
Interns provide substantial research assistance to our Senior Fellows and staff, as well as have the opportunity to participate in Defense Department and interagency meetings and events. Responsibilities include research assistance (library and internet) and administrative support, event coordination, editorial and publication assistance, social media outreach, and database development. Interns must be able to work independently and multi-task efficiently with minimal supervision.
Job Qualifications
We offer unpaid internships to U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students with at least a 3.0 GPA from an accredited U.S. university or college. We also take applicants who have recently completed their studies. Applicants must have strong research and writing skills, be detail-oriented, and be proficient with MS Office. We seek interns from diverse academic backgrounds, including those in the fields of International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Life Sciences, Engineering, Security Studies, Computer Science, Education, Psychology, Public Health, Publishing, Communications, and Hospitality.

All applications must include a resume, short writing sample (in English, 5 pages maximum), and a cover letter. The cover letter should include any regional or topical areas of academic interest of the candidate as they apply to the research at CTNSP as well as the dates of availability.
