The University of Cape Town invites applications for appointment to the post of Director of Postgraduate Studies. The purpose of the post is to provide focused leadership, in close co-operation with deans and faculty structures, in regard to i) co-ordinating an efficient university-wide platform for postgraduate studies; and ii) ensuring an optimal experience for all postgraduate students.
In addition, the Director is responsible for co-ordinating strategies to increase the absolute number of postgraduate students in a meaningful way; to optimise the time from registration to graduation and to increase the number of publications produced by Master’s and PhD students.
Requirements:
A doctorate and at least 10 years’ experience working in the postgraduate environment in higher education. The ideal candidate’s previous experience should include research into postgraduate education provision, the evaluation of postgraduate programmes, demonstrable understanding or direct experience of supervision processes as well as sound knowledge of the national policy context, funding and other support mechanisms for enhancing postgraduate student development, and international trends in higher education.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with senior academics and administrators across all faculties as well as liaise with external partners.
Project management expertise, good communication (including report writing) and administrative experience are essential skills for this post.
The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is negotiable between R731 630 and R860 742
