Coordinator, Maison Dorcas

Job title: Coordinator
Duty Station: Maison Dorcas, Commune of Ibanda, Bukavu, DR Congo
Type of contract: 12 months with possibility of extension a second year depending on funding
Reporting: The Coordinator of Maison Dorcas will be part of the Programme team and report to the Programme Manager and will work in close collaboration with the team of Finance and Administration.
Start date: 15 February 2015

Institutional Background
The Panzi Foundation DRC was established in 2008 by Doctor Denis Mukwege, Medical Director of the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu in Eastern Congo. Dr. Mukwege has been the laureate of several international awards, such as the UN Human Rights price in 2008, proclaimed African of the year of 2009, the Bill Clinton Foundation Price, the Alternative Nobel Prize in 2013 and nevertheless the Sakharov Prize of 2014 to mention only these. Dr. Mukwege has also been nominated more than once for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Currently, Panzi Foundation DRC has four institutions: a legal clinic, City of Joy, Maison Dorcas (transit and training house), and ICART (International Centre for Advanced Research and Training). Projects carried out by these institutions aim to support and assist survivors of sexual and gender-based violence and their dependents; support the clinical work of Panzi hospital; increase access to healthcare, especially for the poor and vulnerable population; promote and protect the rights of women; women empowerment; and to use evidence-based research to identify and solve problems at a local level.
The Panzi Foundation DRC is a local NGO that through substantial international support has an annual budget of 3 million USD. Most of the funds are project specific and financial management has up until now been based on the projects, with sometimes different systems depending on donor requirements. In 2013 Panzi Foundation managed its 4 institutions and implemented 10 projects with 15 different donors.
It is in this context the Maison Dorcas (Dorcas’ House) operates and the center provides training and functions as a transit center for women being victims of sexual and gender-based violence (and other gynecological pathologies such as fistula) offering psychosocial support, training for women and girls and the schooling of their children (learning). The center provides training and promotes women's rights within the community as well as income-generating activities enabling sustainable development.
Job Purpose
To implement and develop a full scale programme within the Maison Dorcas and in relation to other initiatives within the Panzi Foundation.
Job Responsibilities
The Coordinator in his/her capacity is responsible for the transit center Maison Dorcas and the activities carried through in relation to the transit center. He/she assures:
  • the provision of psychosocial support, training for women and girls and the schooling of their children (learning),
  • the promotion of women’s rights within the community, women empowerment as well as the implementation of income-generating activities in terms of vocational training,
  • development of the entire programme within Maison Dorcas as well as in relation to other programmes within the Panzi Foundation,
  • monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning, internal and external communication, fundraising and advocacy. He/she is also responsible for financial planning within budget as well as talent management for personnel within Maison Dorcas.
Desirable qualifications and experience
Education, training and experience
  • University degree or equivalent in project management, business administration, or any related field with a proven experience in working within the area of gender-based violence or other closely related area, or,
  • University degree in any discipline related to gender-based violence (medicine, nursery, sociology, psychology etc.) with a proven experience in project management, business administration, or any related field.
  • Work experience in developing countries as well as an experience of personnel coaching is desirable.
Skills and knowledge
  • Programme management development, programme evaluation, budget management, management reporting and grant management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, excel, power-point, outlook).
Personal skills
  • Proven success in interpersonal skills in terms of leading others, teambuilding and coaching.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and to take initiative.
  • Patient and supportive.
Other requirements
Professional fluency in written and spoken French and English.
Terms
  • Full-time, based in Bukavu, DR Congo
  • Contract with Panzi Foundation DRC, a local NGO
  • 12 months position, starting 15 February 2015, subject to 3 months probationary period
  • Benefits include 25 days leave per full year (plus 1 week RnR every three months for expatriate staff)
  • 40-hour working week, at times including irregular hours (evenings and week-ends) for which time off in lieu may be taken
