The MENTOR Initiative (MENTOR) is an international non-governmental organisation devoted to reducing death and suffering from malaria in humanitarian crises. The MENTOR Initiative is currently providing on going emergency support to the most vulnerable communities in Liberia, Angola, Kenya, the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Chad.
There remains a clear need for further health worker and community health worker training to halt this EVD epidemic, and prevent it from spreading through Health facilities (HFs) in Liberia again. Revolutionizing Infection Protection Control (IPC) across the range of HFs is well under way, controlled by the IPC Task Force and implemented by numerous health partners but there are still critical gaps and constraints particularly on waste management of the large amount of PPE used in updated protocols for Ebola protection.
The WASH Coordinator will be responsible for all the water supply, decontamination and waste management aspects of MENTOR’s Emergency response to Ebola and Restoration of Essential Health Care in Liberia. Strengthening the waste management systems will include running 2 roving self sufficient waste disposal teams (including retrofitting suitable hazardous waste compartment on vehicles or a supply of sealed containers and supplying full PPE and contamination equipment needs), leading a WASH consultancy team to mentor each facility and plan, resource, construct/maintain local incinerators&burn pits as well as upgrading the large MENTOR shared incinerator.
