FCA is looking for a
Program Officer– Right to Peace – based in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR)
Central Africa Republic is one of FCA’s main program countries, where the organization engages in relief, reconstruction, conflict resolution and reconciliation work. FCA has established a field office in the country in the autumn 2013.
Since its establishment in Bangui, FCA has developed its program to responds to the acute humanitarian crisis worsened by the recent violence of December 2013, with a specific focus on the education sector, and more specifically on the rehabilitation of school structures. Aiming at restoring access to safe and quality education in CAR, FCA is currently working in the western part of the country (Nana-Mambéré), while providing small scale education activities in IDP camps in Bangui. In 2014, FCA will aim at scaling up its reconstruction activities while exploring additional sectors of activities (e.g. livelihood, peace).
In order to support the scaling up of program activities related to conflict resolution and reconciliation, FCA is now recruiting a Program Officer – Right to Peace. The Program Officer will contribute to the program development and implementation focusing on conflict resolution and reconciliation. The Program Officer will also network nationally with peace support actors.
The Officer will report to the country management in CAR. He/she will closely collaborate with thematic peace experts at regional and headquarter level.
Finn Church Aid Right to Peace (R2P) work is coordinated within Executive Director’s Cabinet (CABI). CABI is responsible for FinnChurchAid Global Impact Advocacy Goals on Right to Peace (including Secretariat Function for Global Network of Religious and Traditional Peace-makers).
Duties and responsibilities:
- The Program Officer is responsible for providing conflict resolution and reconciliation input to country program planning and contributes to program implementation; while focusing on the theme “right to peace”, the officer will also support other themes as far as they are having a peace and reconciliation component.
- He/She is contributing to national networking with relevant peace support actors, such as UN, INGOs, government, under close guidance and with support from FCA’s country leadership.
- He/she is responsible for theme related activity planning, reporting as well as programmatic communication.
- He/she is contributing to theme related local and international fundraising.
- The Program Officer supports the Network of Traditional and Religious Peacemakers locally as required.
Competence and Personal Requirements:
- Minimum Master’s degree in a relevant field of specialization
- Prior experience in conflict resolution, peace building, reconciliation or similar
- Conceptual understanding of peace work
- Understanding of programmatic work in NGO sector, work experience in NGOs is an asset
- Experience project planning, implementation and reporting
- Proven team orientation skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment
- Fluency in French and English is required
- Excellent networking and communicating skills
This fixed-term position starting in February until December 2015 is based in Bangui, CAR. The salary is based on FCA Salary System and will include adverse working conditions allowance.
