OVERVIEW
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (“the Global Fund”) is a 21st-century partnership organization designed to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics.
Founded in 2002, the Global Fund is a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and people affected by the diseases.
The Global Fund works with countries to support programs of prevention, treatment and care for the three diseases and to strengthen health systems. It raises and invests nearly US$4 billion a year to support programs run by local experts in countries and communities most in need.

THE ETHICS AND GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE OF THE GLOBAL FUND
The Global Fund is seeking a highly qualified and experienced expert in ethics to fill a vacancy to serve as a non-voting, independent member on the Ethics and Governance Committee (“EGC”).
The EGC is one of three Standing Committees of the Global Fund Board. The purpose of the EGC is to oversee (i) adherence by the Global Fund and its stakeholders to appropriate standards of ethical behaviour, as described in related Global Fund policies, codes and requirements; and (ii) implementation of the procedures and operations related to the Global Fund’s governance structure and its core governance functions EGC. To be considered as an independent member of the ECG, individuals must satisfy the independence criteria set out at Appendix I of the Charter of the EGC.
COMMITTEE PARTICIPATION
The time commitment to EGC activities will be concentrated around two-to-three day in-person meetings, which generally occurs three times per year in Geneva, Switzerland. This includes preparation for these meeting (e.g., reading background documentation distributed approximately two weeks prior to the meeting) as well as meeting participation. Inter-sessional work between EGC meetings may entail participation in conference calls or further document review. An honorarium recognizing their service may be provided, in addition to travel expenses and per diems.

COMPETENCIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EGC INDEPENDENT MEMBERS
The expected minimum key competencies and responsibilities are:
- Relevant experience or background overseeing ethics or standards of conduct and integrity.
- Experience with reviewing allegations or complaints and conducting inquiries in relation to ethics, conflicts of interest or integrity concerns.
- Knowledge and experience working in large governing bodies or organizations comparable to the Global Fund (e.g., multilateral development banks, intergovernmental organizations, public-private partnerships) including development, implementation and oversight of relevant operating procedure and therefore understanding of associated:
- governance structures and roles; and
- rules and regulations binding the operations and performance of such organization.
Knowledge of the development and global health landscape may be helpful background
Independent members on the AFC will serve in their personal capacity.

All expressions of interest will be acknowledged as soon as possible after receipt.
All appropriately qualified and experienced individuals will be considered for the independent member vacancy on the EGC, regardless of their sex, sexual orientation and/or gender identities. Individuals who are living with HIV are strongly encouraged to lodge an an expression of interest.
All members of the EGC, including the ethics independent member, are to be appointed by the Board of the Global Fund.
