Livelihoods and Food Security Consultant

by Unknown  |  at  3:55 AM

Background
DanChurchAid, is a Danish non-profit humanitarian organisation operational in Gambella, Ethiopia, working to assist the South Sudanese refugees. Since August 2015, DanChurchAid (DCA) has been implementing a fresh food voucher project in Gambella, Ethiopia, targeting South Sudanese refugee households with children 6 – 23 months and pregnant and lactating women (PLWs) with the support of DfID. With this project, DCA is targeting 3,200 households with the aim of increasing diet diversification and improving the food security at the household level.
DCA is now looking for a livelihood and food security consultant to assist in assessing and identifying sustainable livelihood activities in a refugee setting in order to strengthen the resiliency of the target population, reducing negative coping strategies and enabling households to develop proactive and sustainable livelihoods in agricultural and non-agricultural activities for income generating activities and food security.
Refugees are currently entirely dependent on humanitarian aid, including WFP food rations, for food security and all other basic needs. Limited water and land are challenging factors to take into account as well as refugees’ inability to work due to Ethiopian law. Very few INGOs are engaged in livelihood activities and in light of decreasing funding overall and the narrow prospects of returning home in the near future sustainable livelihood activities are becoming increasingly necessary.

· Identify the current activities being carried out or completed in an attempt to create synergies.
· To assess/identify any potential partners
· To formalize the propositions through the preparation of detailed concept notes
Qualifications
· Post-graduate degree in social/political sciences, arts or in a humanitarian assistance related field.
· At least 5 years of field experience with humanitarian NGOs in Food security and livelihood sector in refugee settings.
  • Knowledge in land optimization and farming technics including backyard gardening, multi-story gardening.
