SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for over 130 SOS Children’s Villages associations worldwide. As a non-governmental social development organisation we help children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education and health. RESEARCH INTERN (f/m)
for the region of Middle East and north africa
Location: Casablanca/Morocco
We are offering a three month internship as of 1st of May (start date can be flexible), within the Programme Department in the International Office of the MENA region of SOS Children’s Villages for high qualified candidates to support the on-going development of child safeguarding work within the region, ensuring the best possible responses to all children in our programmes.
Our office is supporting eight Middle Eastern and North African countries, including Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Morocco.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Assist the Programme Coordinator and the Programme Director in the drafting of guidelines in different topics for the region, regarding youth integration as well as de-institutionalisation processes and alternative care. The tasks of the Research intern will be:
1. Desk research and data collection:
Youth integration:
  • Mapping of civil society organizations in the MENA region working in the field of youth
  • Mapping of the situation regarding youth care programmes within SOS Children’s Villages in the region, as well as outside SOS
  • Document promising practices related to youth care programme among offices in the region
  • Develop questionnaires and provide analysis of data collected on the situation of youth within our programmes and in the region
De-institutionalisation and alternative care:
  • Hold desk research on alternative care and de-institutionalization processes in the MENA region ‘legal frameworks; existing practices and projects/initiatives etc…
  • Develop questionnaires and provide analysis of data collected on the situation of youth within our programmes and in the region
2. Ensure coordination among the working groups on the different guidelines
  • Organize conference calls among the working group and consolidate information
  • Provide working group with the minutes of the meetings
  • Ensure working group is aligned to the terms of reference that were agreed, and that actions are implemented according to the agreed timeline.
3. Translation work
Support in translation and/or proofreading of various document (Arabic into English or French) and if needed interpretation work
Other tasks could be attributed to the intern according to priorities and needs of the Programme Department team.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent skills in communication and research – capacity to analyse, synthesize information
  • Ability to work under pressure and keep a good sense of humour in a very dynamic environment
  • Strong organisational and self-management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
Languages
  • Fluency in English or French, with excellent writing and speaking skills
  • A high level of Arabic is required
Qualifications
Master’s in development studies, international cooperation, sociology or a related field.
An experience in working with children or in psychology related work would be an asset.
SUPERVISION
The direct supervisor of the intern will be the Programme Director.
