The Board of Trustees of WorldFish is seeking a dynamic leader with significant managerial, operational, and scientific experience to become the new Director General.
WorldFish is an international, nonprofit research organization that harnesses the potential of fisheries and aquaculture to reduce hunger and poverty. Globally, more than one billion poor people obtain most of their animal protein from fish and 800 million depend on fisheries and aquaculture for their livelihoods.
WorldFish has more than 420 scientists and staff based in eight regional or country offices, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, Egypt, Malawi, Malaysia, Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Zambia. Utilizing its scientific expertise, its networks and partnerships, and an innovative ‘research in development’ approach, WorldFish increases the productivity and sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture and improves the lives of poor people who rely on them. Headquartered in Penang, Malaysia, WorldFish is one of the 15 members of CGIAR, a global agriculture research partnership for a food secure future.
The Director General is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy, advancing the WorldFish influence and brand globally. The successful candidate will offer a demonstrated track-record of program innovation and resource mobilization. S/he will be an effective relationship builder with the ability to engage diverse constituencies. These will include the Board, media, research centers, donor groups, agencies, governments, and the private sector.
The new Director General will bring significant experience in the leadership of complex organizations, and will develop a smart and healthy organizational culture by exemplifying WorldFish’s values and a demonstrated commitment to impact. Success in this role will require the ability to lead across the management, fiscal, fundraising, and scientific facets of the organization’s work. S/he will have substantive international research and development experience, including the application of research results for developing country conditions and addressing food security, poverty alleviation, and human nutrition and health. S/he will be a scientific authority with a robust portfolio of publications. Exposure to the realities of operating in developing countries will be important.
