In order to facilitate and to maximise the impact of humanitarian operations financed by the European Union, and of the EU civil protection activities coordinated by the European Commission, the expert will be appointed to the post of Health Thematic coordinator as a humanitarian Technical Assistant (T/A) by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection - ECHO.
The Health thematic coordinator will be based at ECHO’s Regional Support Office in Dakar, Senegal.
The ECHO Thematic coordinators ensure the overall coherence of DG ECHO policies, strategies and interventions in key sectors like health and other sectors of intervention.
The global health expert component of the role specifically involves the coordination of a working group comprising ECHO regional health experts, to ensure the coherence of ECHO humanitarian health interventions, advice on major issues relating to humanitarian health and engagement with the humanitarian dimension of global health governance.
The thematic coordinator will work in a multidisciplinary team (the Global Thematic Coordinator Network) and in support of the whole of DG ECHO. S/He will cover a specific set of tasks and will be the focal point for the area of health.
