CDC is the world’s oldest development finance institution (DFI), founded in 1948. Its mission is to support the building of businesses throughout Africa and South Asia, to create jobs and make a lasting difference to people’s lives in some of the world’s poorest places. Since 2012 CDC has provided capital in a number of forms: by placing capital with expert fund managers who use their local knowledge and expertise to find promising businesses in which to invest; by providing direct investments or co-investing in specific businesses; and by making loans, guarantees and offering micro-finance support.
CDC is now looking to attract high quality investment professionals who are motivated to use their skills to develop the private sector in Africa and South Asia with the addition of the following key hire:
Investment Director, Financial Institutions
Leading thorough research on potential investments in target financial institutions, this role will identify trends in the industry in general and in specific countries for the origination of deals for equity and/or debt investments.
Responsibilities will include: establishing and managing relationships in (primarily) Africa with a range of financial institutions; preparation of investment reports and communicating the rationale for investing; conducting due diligence, valuation and financial analysis; actively managing existing investments; and representing CDC on governance boards.
At least 10 years of relevant investment experience is required for this high profile opportunity, with direct exposure to emerging markets, preferably in Africa or South Asia. A strong track record working with a DFI, IFI, commercial bank or private equity firm would be ideal.
