Biodiversity Advisor, Liberia
We are currently seeking a Biodiversity Advisor for the USAID-funded Forest Incomes for Environmental Sustainability (FIFES) program. FIFES is designed to provide broad support to biodiversity conservation and economic growth in Liberia. The goal of the activity is to develop key rural farmers and forest-dependent communities that combat drivers of deforestation and biodiversity loss.
Responsibilities:
· Serves as the principal advisor to the COP on all matters related to best practices in biodiversity conservation including ensuring that the project activities are in line with USAID’s new Biodiversity Policy.
· Ensures that project activities and locations are chosen to have the most positive impact on the conservation of Liberia’s forest biodiversity.
· Supports the Chief of Party in attaining project goals and objectives by providing technical advice and direction.
· Oversees day-to-day planning, design and operations of technical teams to ensure effective project implementation.
· Ensures integration and synergies across project components.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Strongly preferred Master’s degree or equivalent in environmental sciences or related area or equivalent.
· At least ten years of relevant experience, five of which should be in Liberia.
· At least five years of experience managing and coordinating biodiversity development activities strongly preferred.
· Familiarity with USAID Biodiversity Policy a plus.
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with institutional and private sector partners and stakeholders in Liberia.
· Excellent writing and communication skills.
· Ability to use the latest ICT technology and computer software programs.
· Professional fluency in English required.
