Greater Manchester is pioneering a new approach to driving economic growth and reforming public services. The groundbreaking devolution deal agreed with Government in November 2014 provides new powers and responsibilities which have the potential to lead to a step-change in economic performance and move the city region towards becoming fiscally self-sustaining.
An evidence-led approach is at the heart of Greater Manchester’s strategy. Now more than ever we need to ensure that our policy and delivery is informed by the highest level of evidence. New Economy is therefore seeking to recruit a Chief Economist to advise the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) on all economic issues and lead the application of economic analysis and strategy development in support of Greater Manchester’s priorities. The post will also support the Manchester Growth Company in its thinking to drive the delivery of its objectives and business development opportunities.
This is a very senior position and we are looking for an exceptionally talented individual who can offer the highest levels of economic expertise to advise on economic issues, working with and influencing very senior officials and politicians in local and national Government and working with key business leaders.
You will be an expert in the field of economics, taking responsibility for advising the GMCA on the economic elements of its strategies, policy decisions, project delivery and its negotiations with Government. As a highly engaging public speaker with experience in communicating complex issues and with a strong understanding of local authorities and the devolution agenda, you will lead in developing cutting-edge economic principles to advance the analysis of areas of strategic importance to the city-region. Such areas include (but are not limited to) public service reform, spatial planning, business support and health & social care.
We are looking for someone who has a real passion for Greater Manchester to succeed, who understands both the local economic landscape and how macro-economic conditions at a national and international level can affect the city-region operationally. If you think you have what it takes, please look through the further details in the role profile and apply by visiting:www.manchestergrowth.co.uk/jobs.
New Economy is committed to providing equality of opportunity to all job applicants and members of staff. We encourage applications from individuals with a disability. We also welcome applications from individuals looking for secondment arrangements. Although the role is anticipated to be full time, we would be willing to negotiate flexible or part-time arrangements for exceptionally talented candidates.
The closing date for applications is 5pm Monday 27th July 2015.
