Surgical and Operating Theatre Nurse

by Unknown  |  at  11:12 AM

As our empathetic, articulate and calm Surgical and Operating Theatre Nurse you'll be on the front-line of Save the Children's emergency health service delivery, supporting rapid facility and scenario assessments and training workshops, and providing compassionate and competent patient care.
Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.
As part of our Emergency Health Unit, you'll join an innovative pilot scheme aimed at providing surge personnel support to existing facilities during spikes in crisis, helping to ensure the achievement of health, nutrition, HIV, water sanitation and hygiene objectives. Familiarising yourself with the content and function of the unit – including clinical components, and plans and scope of work – as Surgical and Operating Theatre Nurse you will also:
  • Contribute to the reduction in post-operation complications / infections, and help improve the capacity of partner organisations to respond to clinical emergencies
  • Provide training and assistance in the development of emergency preparedness plans, focusing on mass casualty management, emergency response, and trauma care
  • Assist with surgical unit assessments, helping to identify facilities that can host surgical activities and trauma care
  • Aid the programme planning and the procurement of essential materials, drugs and equipment
  • Carry out the full spectrum of pre, intra and post-operative care.
You will be an operating theatre nurse with the appropriate licensing and credentials, and previous experience working in emergency response, austere and potentially volatile environments. You will additionally have:
  • The ability to assess medical conditions quickly and calmly while under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English
  • A background working flexibly in cross-cultural settings, and in difficult working conditions
  • A commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children, particularly an understanding of our remit and child focus
  • Experience providing patient care in the emergency room, ward and post-operative settings is highly desirable.
At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
