The National Research Institute (NRI) is the premier research institution in PNG providing economic and social policy advice to government. It has a long history of producing high quality research and policy advice.
The Institute is undergoing additional developments in 2015 and seeks to further strengthen its management, conduct and oversight of research activities. The Institute has a number of junior researchers who require professional and technical support to develop as future researchers in PNG.
A new position, Deputy Director (Research), has been created to provide support to the Director of the Institute including defining research priorities, designing research strategies and methodologies, quality assurance, information storage, mentoring, and effective dissemination of research and policy products.
Coffey, through the Economic and Public Sector Program (EPSP) is now seeking applications for a Deputy Director with The PNG National Research Institute, based in Port Moresby.
The Position
As a long term position, the Deputy Director will be expected to.
· Provide leadership in research design, and implementation of the Institute's Research Program with input from the Council, Director and stakeholders.
· Co-ordinate planning, implementation and contracting of consultancy services and commissioned research to outside entities.
· Review the ICT and knowledge management systems including the Library and Database Management Services and recommend changes to improve retrieval and storage of research reports.
· Monitor and review all Institute outputs to achieve high standards and quality of research and research products.
· Advise the Director in the development of research policies and practices, and develop strategies to mobilise additional resources needed for NRI priorities.
· Develop cooperative linkages with external stakeholders to advance the strategic vision of the Institute.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have:
- PhD in Economics, Business, or other Social Sciences
- More than Five (5) years’ experience in managing a research organisation at a senior level
- Knowledge of current social or political science research design, analysis and report writing
- Proven leadership, administrative, and data management skills
- Proven capacity to implement major projects and knowledge of contractual arrangements
- Awareness of current trends and issues in research for development priorities in PNG or a similar developing country
- Sound ICT skills and experience in a knowledge management industry
- Experience in academic institution an advantage
