African Regional Facilitator - Southern Voices on Climate Change - in Ghana, Kenya or Malawi

THE POSITION
A Regional Facilitator for Africa in Southern Voices on Adaptation to Climate Change project by CARE Denmark
  • Part time position - to be based with a host organisation in either Ghana, Kenya or Malawi, with the following key tasks
  • Capacity building of partner networks in those three countries to advocate for pro-poor policies, based on theJoint Principles for Adaptation (JPA)
  • Promote networking and knowledge management between SVA-partners and outreach to other actors working on adaptation in Africa
APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED IN TWO WAYS
  • From organisations or networks – we ask for expressions of interest, including a proposal for the individual candidate. This can be from existing SVA-partners or from other civil society organisations or regional networks in Africa.
  • From individual candidates - who can suggest a relevant host organization or network.
KEY FUNCTIONS OF THE REGIONAL FACILITATOR
  1. To support capacity building of partner networks, particularly in their efforts to develop and implement advocacy strategies to achieve significant policy achievements.
  2. To help engage partner networks in a community of practice on the JPA for sharing and learning on how to use and contextualize the JPA for influencing adaptation frameworks.
  3. To represent and promote the JPA initiative in their regions – and at international level - towards civil society actors and other relevant stakeholders
  4. To assist in overall project management of the Southern Voices on Adaptation project
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
  • Experience from working with climate change policy advocacy at national and regional level
  • Experience in capacity-building of civil society organisations relating to policy work, advocacy, and networking
  • Experience from working with climate change adaptation with vulnerable communities
  • Strong communication and networking skills, across countries and regions
THE HOSTING ORGANISATION SHOULD HAVE
  • A relevant candidate meeting the requirements above – documented through a CV
  • An office in either Malawi, Ghana or Kenya – the countries where SV-Adapt is operating in Africa.
  • Organisational capacity to employ the part time regional facilitator and providing the person with office space, support, guidance and monitoring
  • Experience in working on climate change advocacy at national/regional level
  • Active membership of regional networks, contacts with climate policy networks in other countries
  • Opportunities for the part-time regional facilitator to be integrated into the other work of the organization, ideally as an employee for the other half of their time.
