KPMG Economic Consulting – Fiscal & Government Affairs
KPMG’s Economics team is a full-service economic consulting practice of approximately 70 economists.  We have wide-ranging experience in all aspects of economic and regulatory analysis across a wide range of sectors. 
The UK team is part of wider global Economics and Regulation network and comprises a number of different practice areas, including Fiscal and Government Affairs.
The Fiscal & Government Affairs practice is currently a team of 10-12 economists.  We are looking to grow rapidly to meet our clients’ demand.
What we do – economic analysis of tax, regulation, economic impact studies and cost benefit analysis
We conduct economic analysis for a wide range of clients in both the private and public sectors including: economic modelling of the effects of taxes and regulations on businesses; economic impact studies; cost benefit analyses; and development economics.  We also advise clients in indirect tax disputes.
We work across a wide range of sectors including, but not restricted to:  sporting organisations; telecoms; FMCGs; tobacco; gambling; financial services; national and local government; local enterprise partnerships.
Our team’s expertise includes: econometrics; economic spreadsheet modelling; economic simulation analysis; microeconomic analysis of tax and regulations; economic impact studies; cost benefit analyses; communicating technical material in a clear and compelling way.
Positions for which we are looking to recruit
We are looking to recruit a number of economic consultants to join us in growing our team. 
We are looking for 1 Senior Manager and 1 Manager to work in the area of economic appraisal, impact assessment and evaluation.  Candidates will ideally have:
  • Extensive of conducting economic appraisal and evaluation in a consulting and/or government department setting.
  • An established track record in economic consultancy including: marketing and selling consulting work; running projects and small teams; managing consulting team finances to a high standard; managing risk associated with public, high profile, economics reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of central and local Government approaches to conducting economic appraisals and evaluation (e.g. HMT Green Book) and experience of their application.
  • Experience in an economics team of a relevant central government department (e.g. BIS, HM Treasury) would be an advantage.
  • Ability to contribute to selling work and growing a practice.
  • A 2:1 or First class undergraduate degree from a top rated university in a relevant economics discipline.  A good Masters’ degree in a relevant economics discipline an advantage.
We are also looking for 2 Managers to work on projects to conduct economic analysis of taxes and regulations, helping our clients to engage with policy makers and other third parties.  Candidates will ideally have:
  •  Good experience of conducting economic analysis relevant to the work done in the Fiscal & Government Affairs practice, e.g. econometric analysis; economic analysis of excise taxation; economic simulation modelling; economic analysis of changes in regulations; etc.
  • An established track record in economic consultancy including: marketing and selling consulting work; running projects; managing consulting project finances to a high standard; managing risk associated with public, high profile, economics reports.
  • Ability to contribute to selling work and growing a practice.
  • A 2:1 or First class undergraduate degree from a top rated university in a relevant economics discipline.  A good Masters’ degree in a relevant economics discipline an advantage.
We are also looking for 5 Consultants to work across the whole of the Fiscal & Government Affairs practice.  Good candidates will have:
  • Experience of conducting economic analysis relevant to the work done in the Fiscal & Government Affairs practice.
  • Excellent economics knowledge.
  • Strong spreadsheet economic modelling.
  • Excellent econometrics skills.  This will include an ability to conduct and oversee econometric analysis to a high standard (including expertise in packages such as STATA to run analysis and manage datasets).
  • Ability to write economic analysis in a clear and compelling way for non-economists.
