Maternal and Neonatal Health Project Manager

Background:
  • The goal of the MAMA project is to improve the health of mothers and neonates in remote districts in the north of Moçambique. The MAMA project has been implemented since 2011.
  • It covers 3 districts with 600’000 people and targets pregnant women and neonates in the region.
  • Activities on the demand side include incentives, on the provider side a mentoring scheme and the provision of basic equipment.
  • It is embedded in a country program with complementary interventions in the areas of emergency transport, HIV, child health and infrastructure.
The project has a strong implementation research and policy dialogue component.
Tasks and responsibilities:
  • Develop and direct the SolidarMed Maternal / Neonatal Health project in Cabo Delgado
  • Support the district health directorates of Chiure, Ancuabe and Namuno with the improvement of maternal and meonatal health services
  • Apply scientific evidence, promote lessons learned, link with research organizations
  • Coordinate with other SolidarMed projects and national stakeholders
  • The position also includes part-time clinical mentoring and coaching (ideally including basic obstetric surgery). We are looking for a hands-on person with clinical experience in similar settings.
To best fit into our active, interdisciplinary team we expect the following qualifications:**
  • MD with specialisation in Obstetrics/Gynaecology
  • Post graduate degree in public health or similar
  • Sound work experience in maternal/neonatal health in low resource settings
  • Readiness to organize, manage and implement. Management experience, including human resource management and project cycle management
  • Interest in knowledge sharing, scientific exchange and best-practice application
  • Record of or interest in applied field research
  • High intercultural sensitivity and communication skills
Language Skills
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English (written and spoken); reporting language is English
  • If Portuguese not spoken: mother tongue French, Italian or Spanish; proven ability to learn new language(s).
Other skills
  • Experienced and proficient user of common computer programmes (MS office),
  • User-knowledge of any statistical analysis programme is an asset
