Two Senior Legal Officer/Chief of Section positions:

International Administrative Law Section (LA-019)

Under the authority of the Director of the Office of International Standards and Legal Affairs, the Chief of the General Legal Section and the Chief of the International Administrative Law Section will provide strategic and technical leadership. In the General Legal role, you will draft and oversee the preparation of contracts and funding or partnership agreements, as well as treaty texts, internal rules and regulations, and provide support to UNESCO’s governing bodies and treaty bodies. In the International Administrative Law role, you will advise on staff rules and regulations and represent UNESCO in staff matters. You will also provide support to UNESCO’s governing bodies and treaty bodies
For both positions, we require a Master degree in law, together with substantial professional experience in a law firm or the legal department of an intergovernmental organisation. In particular, you should be skilled in leading and managing teams, capable of analysing complex information and developing rigorous arguments, and able to draft and review detailed legal texts. Naturally, it is essential that you can participate effectively in high-level meetings, build and maintain partnerships with government officials and other stakeholders, and operate within strict deadlines. Lastly, you must be fluent in English or French, with a very good knowledge of the other language.
