CALL FOR CONSULTANT
About our organization:
The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 33 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.
Activities in the West and Central Africa Region (WCA) with Regional Office in Yaoundé, Cameroon are carried out in the Sahel, Upper Guinea and in the Humid Tropics zone. The Humid Tropics node (WCA/HT) has offices in Cameroon, Nigeria, DRC, Ghana and Ivory Coast. The node’s activities focus on participatory tree domestication of high-value indigenous fruit trees and medicinal plants with particular emphasis on marketing of derived products. The team consists of over 150 permanent staff members and, many collaborators from partner institutions, including the National Agricultural Research Systems.

About the Assignment:
The incumbent will be based in Yaoundé, Cameroon andwill fill some gaps with work on the ground and also to begin preparation for the “Approach to delivering aid to community forest enterprises” (DRYAD) project
The Terms of Reference will include the following:
- Support the Inception of DRYAD:
· Collect data on Community Forest Enterprises
· Collect data on Cameroonian NGOs working to support community forestry
· Conduct a bibliographic study of community forestry
· Assist with organizing the DRYAD inception workshop
- Support work on the ground:
· Follow-up Sustaining Ecosystem and Carbon benefits by Unlocking Reversal of Emissions Drivers in LANDSCAPES (SECURED) Work with IRAD / IITA
· Follow up work on the legend work
Deliverables:
- Support to the Inception of DRYAD project:
· Prepare a detailed report of existing and active community forest enterprises in Cameroon segregated by region based on national statistics and literature review
· Prepare a detailed annotated bibliography of community forestry in Cameroon and a digital database of the same
· Report on NGOs working on community forestry in Cameroon segregated by region, and if possible by division and area of intervention
· Contribute in drafting the inception workshop report
- Support work on the ground:
· Compile a report from secured landscape partners for the year 2015
Qualifications, experience and skills:
· A minimum of a Master’s degree in Geography, Forestry, Economics or any social science discipline
· A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in the forestry sector
· Experience in Community forestry is an advantage
· Demonstrated data collection ability especially secondary data
· Demonstrated professional competence and mastery of subject matter. Good research, analytical and problem-solving skills
· Must have strong ability to communicate fluently in written and verbal English, and have working knowledge of French
· Ability to present information in a concise and accurate manner, proven ability for preparing comprehensive documents and reports
· Excellent technical knowledge of computer applications and systems
· Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to pass on information clearly to users and to grasp difficulties perceived by users
· Ability to multi-task in dealing with several different problems at a time
· Ability to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on pending matters under minimum supervision.
