BACKGROUND:
Internews is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to empower local media worldwide to give people the news and information they need, the ability to connect and the means to make their voices heard. Formed in 1982, Internews is a 501(c)(3) organization and has worked in more than 90 countries, and currently has offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America.
Internews is seeking experienced User Experience (UX) experts, designers and developers for anticipated short-term consulting opportunities to improve the usability of digital security tools.
TERMS OF REFERENCE:
- Provide technical expertise at respective digital security training and forums and/or enhance the usability of digital security tools for improved user experience;
- Investigate, evaluate and recommend new and merging user experience techniques, technologies, and methodology process improvements;
- Facilitate cross-functional teams throughout product definition, design and development processes;
- Support local communities to identify digital security needs and increase uptake of digital security tools through usability enhancements;
- Stay abreast of current and emerging trends in UX and UI design;
- Collaborate with other UX experts, designers and developers.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Human Factors in computer science, information technology, information systems, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction (HCI) or equivalent experience;
- Minimum of 8 years of related work experience developing and leading the implementation of front-end coding and design standards (i.e. User personas) with demonstrated expertise in interaction design skills and creating user interfaces with JavaScript, HTML/5 , & CSS3;
- Familiarity with AJAX and AngularJS (or similar JavaScript framework);
- Experience with web and user application design, iOS design, Android design, front-end design, OSX design, interaction design, GUI design or usability;
- Expertise or specialized training in user-centered design techniques and standard user experience principles, theories, concepts and techniques;
- Ability to work well with others, meet deadlines, and respond to changes in priorities;
- Strong communication skills and ability to present complex and technical information to a diversity of audiences;
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and analytical skills required;
- A self-starter who works both independently and as a collaborative team player;
- Proficiency in regional language skills a plus; and
- Ability and willingness to travel to regional locations, which may be remote or difficult to reach.
