About

Housing Works (HW), a nonprofit founded in 1990 to combat the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS in New York City, has served over 25,000 New Yorkers since its inception. HW provides housing, case management, primary care, job training, preventative services and outreach, legal support, and other supportive services to over 4,000 people annually. Its entrepreneurial enterprises like the HW Bookstore Cafe, the Thrift Shops, The Works Catering, and fundraising events all support HW client services and our local, state, and national advocacy efforts.
With Governor Cuomo’s recent commitment to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York State by 2020, we are already hard at work both internally and externally to make this goal a reality. Only by addressing the social drivers of HIV/AIDS like poverty, education, and homelessness, can we end the AIDS epidemic in New York State by 2020, in the U.S. by 2025, and worldwide by 2030.
