Campaign and Communications Assistant (Amsterdam) – Volunteer Position (minimum 24 hours a week)

Department: Policy and Advocacy

Fairfood is an Amsterdam-based non-profit organisation that envisions a fair & sustainable food system able to adequately produce and provide nutritious food for everyone in a way that preserves the environment and natural resources for future generations, respects human rights and secures a thriving economy for all, thereby contributing to ending hunger and poverty.
It is Fairfood’s mission to improve the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable people, such as smallholder farmers, workers (especially women) and consumers in our food system and to ensure the sustainable production and consumption of food, by influencing the policies and practices of global food and beverage companies and governments.

Fairfood Campaigns

Fairfood International is currently setting up advocacy campaigns within two of our programme areas: Living Wage and Occupational Health and Safety. In order to ensure effective campaigning, we are looking for a Campaign & Communications Assistant that can help us in the run-up to the public moments by doing preparatory work for communications and actions. You will help perform background communications research, prepare innovative campaign tactics and spread the word on our campaigns. This will include a broad range of online as well as offline communications activities.

Purpose of the position:

As a Campaign and Communications Assistant you will have a versatile position, helping in implementing our campaign strategies and preparing our outreach activities that support the campaigns. The position allows you to get first-hand campaign communications experience, working with key communications tactics in a highly strategic setting. Some of the expected activities are:
  • Assisting in the preparation of public events and actions
  • Creating and distributing regular supporter mailings
  • Supporting social media work through the Fairfood social channels
  • Mapping the relevant media landscape for the public campaigns
  • Writing news updates for internal and external uses

Position within the organisation:

As a Campaign and Communications Assistantyou will be working under the direct supervision of the Advocacy Campaigning team and in close collaboration with the members of the Advocacy Campaigning team. Our team is results-oriented, fun, young and dynamic and we would be very happy to count you with us.

Competences:

You have excellent skills in writing and editing English texts • You are able to work independently, and often flexibly, but are also a team player • You are hands-on, analytical, can think strategically, and are result-oriented • You have affinity with Fairfood’s goals.

Knowledge and Experience:

You are studying or have graduated from a higher education institution (HBO) or university, or have acquired an equivalent level of working and thinking through professional experience, preferably with a focus on campaigning or communications • Knowledge of the food and beverage industry is also an advantage.

This is an unpaid position which is suited to acquire work experience in this particular field of work and at an NGO. We offer a versatile position within a young, international organisation, and dynamic team. You will have the freedom and opportunities to continue developing yourself and achieve tangible results.
We value our volunteers to whom we offer reimbursement of home-work travel as well as lunch when they are in the office. We also fully recognize that flexibility in your working hours might be important for you.

Weekly hours:

Minimum of 24 hours a week

Duration:

Three months with the possibility of renewal
