Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician - P2/3 - Geneva, Switzerland

CANADEM is seeking highly qualified candidates with previous UN and international experience who are available for an immediate deployment to Geneva, Switzerland with WHO for a 2 month contract ASAP
WHO - Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician (Ebola Response) - (P2/3)– Geneva, Switzerland
Duration: 2 month
Purpose of the post:
This position provides Geographic Information System (GIS) services utilizing computerized data capture, storage and analysis techniques for visual displays, spatial analysis and tabular reports on a wide variety of geographical projects. The candidate will determine and dictate how maps are symbolize and displayed following WHO guidelines.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a GIS-related field, such as computer science, geography, cartography, natural resources, landscape architecture and environmental, urban or regional planning, with a strong emphasis in computer-assisted spatial analysis is highly desirable (if no degree, additional work experience is required as specified in the essential experience section).
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The candidate duties will be:
· Design and prepare publication quality cartographic products using industry standards.
· Create presentation slides using finished map products.
· Perform basic spatial analysis operations to create maps and/or tabular reports.
· Build and maintain realistic cartographic workflows
· Maintain geospatial databases and ensure data quality and integrity through the use of automated and manual techniques to enter, edit and process data sets.
· Prepare field data packets to support data collection templates.
· Research and analyse customer requests, industry standards, and specifications to help define cartographic requirements
· May provide demonstrations, presentations and produce documents on the GIS platform of work being done by the organization.
Functional Knowledge and Skills
Essential Experience
· Minimum Experience Required: 2 - 4 years (with Bachelor’s degree in fields specified in the background section; 6+ years without degree or degree not in specified fields, as noted above) of directly-related experience in GIS Support, providing professional GIS services utilizing computerized data capture, storage and analysis is required.
· Knowledge and proficiency with Esri ArcGIS software is required.
· Experience and proficiency with PC operating systems and standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite 2010 - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is required.
Desirable Experience
· Previous experience of health-related mapping.
Languages
· English
· French (an asset)
