Job Introduction
BBC Media Action uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people in understanding their rights. To achieve this, it partners with civil society, local media and governments to:
- Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues; and
- Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.
The work of BBC Media Action focuses on three thematic areas:
- Health
- Governance and rights; and
- Resilience, which includes Humanitarian and emergency preparedness
As Project Manager, Africa, you will be providing support to country offices and Country Directors to ensure new innovative projects are in the pipeline.
Main Responsibilities
This position will require you to provide project management support remotely to country operations from London. Your biggest priority will be in sourcing donor funding for our projects – creating and writing donor proposals and budgets, and monitoring project and budget progress for existing projects. You will also be assisting with other project management support, such as liaising with other BBC departments to ensure support to the country office is there when they need it. You will be expected to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, legal, procurement, production support, business development and others areas, coupled with contributing to the editorial quality and compliance of all programmes and materials.
The Ideal Candidate
This role will need you to have experience of project management, donor proposal writing and working with donor contracts, along with concrete experience of creating and tracking budgets. You will have previous experience in either media or development, coupled with strong communication skills, including the ability to write fast and well in English. Field experience in Africa is preferred, as is field experience in one of our 3 themes.
